The final stage of the gearbox rebuild is inserting the selector shafts. These comprise of two rods which control engagement of 4WD high range and 4WD low range and are operated from the red and yellow levers in the cab.

Final front output is furnished via this shaft that fits over the transfer box output shaft. Only when the 4WD dog engages with the teeth seen here, is 4WD engaged. The rest of the time, the vehicle is in rear wheel  drive only
