When I bought LGL, I obtained a copy of the original Lode Lane build sheet from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust which shows a build date of 12th May 1966 (today) and despatched to Switzerland on 8th June 1966.
Since manufacturing started, around 500,000 vehicles had been produced up to 1966. 70% of which were for the export market. At the time Land Rover were producing around 60,000 vehicles a year.
There’s a great statistic kicking around… of the all of the Series / Defenders manufactured (2,016,933), it’s estimated that 70% of them are still on the road, somewhere in the world!
Happy Birthday LGL… no words… just a gallery of pictures (assuming WordPress publishes them this time)

Happy Birthday! What an amazing rejuvenation process. Great to see all the pictures!
